Writing Fairy tales
Story-writing is a wonderful and exciting classroom activity which engages all the students, makes them use their creativity and imagination and improves their reading and writing skills. But how easy is it? What can we do to motivate the students and not turn it into a boring and difficult task?
Describing the process : The students used 4 dice to "score" the characters, setting and props that would be used to write the fairy tales. There was a die for the "good characters", one for the "bad characters", a die for the "setting" and one for the "props". You can create your own dice according to the characters you want to use or print ready-made templates you can find at http://displays.tpet.co.uk/#/ViewResource/id351 . The students at teams were asked to create their own stories. They came up with the following:
After writing the fairy-tales and making the presentations, the students enthusiastically made the puppets and performed their stories as puppet shows without even writing down the script. The dialogues were spontaneous and there were dialogue chunks spoken even by the forest or the cave which were personified as everybody was eager to take part!! Enjoy the photos......

TOY SAFETY WEB-QUEST

| |||||||||
This web-quest is aimed at Primary School students working on projects related to "Toy Safety" ,or the European Union matters related to their protection and their consumer rights. Because of the age and the level of English of the students, a certain number of Youtube videos were preferred as study material, as well as the European Union information bank http://ec.europa.eu/atoz_en.htm , as opposed to books or articles in newspapers. The amount of information and resources was kept relatively small because the main goal was not to overwhelm the students with rules and regulations, but to involve them in a pleasant way in the process of experiential learning and lead them to the main aims of the project. The web-quest was used as only part of a wider project entitled "Play by the rules" carried out by the students of the 5th and 6th class of the Primary School of Loutropoli Thermis, Lesvos, Greece for the "Teachers4Europe" under the guidance and planning of Angela Tsakiri - Teacher of English Language, February 2012 |
