Story-writing is a wonderful and exciting classroom activity which engages all the students, makes them use their creativity and imagination and improves their reading and writing skills. But how easy is it? What can we do to motivate the students and not turn it into a boring and difficult task?
Describing the process : The students used 4 dice to "score" the characters, setting and props that would be used to write the fairy tales. There was a die for the "good characters", one for the "bad characters", a die for the "setting" and one for the "props". You can create your own dice according to the characters you want to use or print ready-made templates you can find at http://displays.tpet.co.uk/#/ViewResource/id351 . The students at teams were asked to create their own stories. They came up with the following:
After writing the fairy-tales and making the presentations, the students enthusiastically made the puppets and performed their stories as puppet shows without even writing down the script. The dialogues were spontaneous and there were dialogue chunks spoken even by the forest or the cave which were personified as everybody was eager to take part!! Enjoy the photos......
